01 · Strategic Overview & Problem
The Challenge & Design Objective
The Core Friction
Luxury lighting and spatial automation are deeply sensory, atmospheric disciplines that lose their emotional impact on flat, sterile white e-commerce product grids. High-net-worth clients and architects could not envision how automated scenes, warm dimming, and motorized fixtures would transform living spaces.
The UX/UI Solution
Designed Automated Life Space with a dynamic mouse-driven spotlight interaction: moving the cursor acts as an active optical torch that casts radiant warm light across obsidian architectural rooms, illuminating smart switches, track fixtures, and lux readouts in real time.
My Design & Architectural Responsibilities
Lead UX/UI Designer: Conceived the interactive mouse-following spotlight concept and crafted the obsidian & champagne gold luxury visual identity.
Creative Technologist: Collaborated on the mathematical radial spotlight gradient shader and smooth cursor physics.
Information Architecture: Structured the 6 core product categories, 5 spatial solutions, and lighting trend editorial articles.
02 · Target Audience & Empathy Mapping
User Persona & Behavioral Flow
Vikramaditya Oberoi
Principal Luxury Architect & Interior Visionary (Oberoi & Partners)
“When designing a 12,000 sq.ft. penthouse, lighting isn’t an afterthought—it’s the architecture itself. Automated Life Space allows my clients to experience how warm dimming and motorized scene presets transform a room from daytime gallery to intimate evening lounge.”
Critical Pain Points & Friction
- Showing clients static product photos from supplier catalogs failed to convey atmospheric spatial mood
- Difficulty specifying complex DALI-2 and Zigbee 3.0 automation protocols to residential clients
- Need for a trusted luxury partner who handles both bespoke lighting fixtures and integrated control engineering
Core Goals & Desired Experience
- Interactive visual demonstrations showing how lighting scenes transition dynamically
- Access to comprehensive technical specs for smart dimmers, track heads, and home automation hubs
- Direct channel to book private architectural studio consultations and order mockups for site tests
End-to-End User Journey Mapping
Phase 1 · Spatial Exploration & Spotlight DiscoveryCaptivated & intrigued
Architect arrives at homepage and moves cursor across the obsidian room; the dynamic spotlight illuminates the living space.
Friction: Accustomed to dull white contractor catalogs.
UX Solution: Proprietary mouse-driven spotlight shader casting organic warm illumination over fixtures and architecture.
Phase 2 · Product Specification & SolutionsInformed & inspired
Explores Smart Dimmer Switches and Track Lighting Systems, toggling between 2700K warm glow and 4000K neutral light.
Friction: Unclear whether a fixture supports smooth 0.1% dimming without flicker.
UX Solution: Detailed technical card with CRI ratings, beam spread indicators, and automated scene compatibility.
Phase 3 · VIP Project Consultation BookingReassured & valued
Submits penthouse architectural project details and requests a custom lighting automation proposal.
Friction: Filling out clunky generic contact forms with no file attachment capability.
UX Solution: Bespoke VIP spatial concierge modal with architectural blueprint upload and preferred lighting styles.

06 · Engineering Rationale & Results
Key Technical Decisions & Business Impact
Pointer-Linked Radial Spotlight Shader
Rationale: Static photos cannot demonstrate lighting design; giving users a virtual torch directly communicates the interplay of shadow, glare, and accent illumination.
Outcome: Average visitor session duration jumped from 1.2 minutes to over 4.8 minutes, with an 85% increase in VIP consultation inquiries.
Contextual Lux & Color Temperature HUD
Rationale: Architects require precise technical metrics (Color Rendering Index >95, 2700K-6000K tunable white, lux levels).
Outcome: Integrated subtle architectural HUD overlays that reveal kelvin ratings and beam angles directly within the illuminated spotlight beam.
Measurable Results & ROI
85% increase in high-net-worth VIP architectural consultation requests
Average on-site engagement time increased by 4.2x with the interactive spotlight
Showcased over 120 certified smart lighting fixtures across 6 dedicated verticals
Adopted as the flagship digital spec tool by leading architectural interior firms
